Three Good Reasons
For the REACH Festival in Holyoke, Massachusetts I was invited to create a work in the stairwell of the City Hall Annex.
Three Good Reasons, painted drywall, steel framing, each panel: 4″x12″x640″,2013.
Fabrication: The panels were fabricated on site in about 24 hours. They were then folded, bent and twisted into the light well of the stairway.
Ground floor view. Very large items forced into a very small space. Bright colors and reflective metal in an old and deeply marked space.
The bends and tears and folds of the panels indicated the history of the project. It assumed this form as the panels were pressed into the confines of the space.
Part of the task was to make something that was active from every level of a three story stairwell with multiple landings. I wanted something non-rectangular in an otherwise rectangular frame.
Special thanks to David Poppie and Maggie Nowinski for helping with the fabrication and installation.
